Varitek returns from broken right foot

Just hours after Jason Varitek went 1-for-3 as the designated hitter for Triple-A Pawtucket, he was placed back on Boston's active roster for the first time since breaking his right foot on a foul ball June 30.

Pedroia expected to begin training this winter

It's hard to keep Dustin Pedroia away from the ballpark. Less than 24 hours after he'd undergone surgery on his left foot, Pedroia walked into the clubhouse on crutches and began chatting up his teammates. He should be cleared to begin his normal offseason training program at the beginning of December and be back at full strength for 2011.
